Shauri Moyo and Starehe estate are about to receive extreme makeup due to the Big 4 agenda that is being pursued by the Government.

One of the strategies that the Government has put in play is to encourage both foreign and local investors to invest in low-cost housing development.

Housing and Urban Development principal secretary Charles Hinga has advised those who are seeking to partner with the Government for this project to submit their bid on or before 14th of February 2019, and the application is to be submitted online.

The three selected estates will pioneer the development of government-owned residential houses from single rooms or studio houses to multistoried apartments starting with Nairobi’s county and spread to 36 counties that committed to providing land for the project.

The Government plans to launch their flagship project include Park Road estate where 1,640 units will be built, Starehe will have 3,500 houses, Shauri Moyo will have 5,300 houses, Social housing will have 15,000 and Mavoko with 5,500 units. County Governments’ that will participate in this Housing projects will see 48,000 units built with Nairobi and Mombasa cities taking up the bigger percentage.

The nationwide housing project will be rolled out in the next three years where public land has been reserved.

Housing projects are facing some resistance from both the employers and employee. Due to the tax impact on their pay and profit margins.
